VISION
We propose an AR experience that encourages new viewers to attend the Roxbury International Film Festival (RIFF) for its entire duration by creating a scavenger hunt to learn more about Roxbury after its first meeting, using interactive environments that include recordings of RIFF participants sharing their stories and tasks that encourage viewers to explore the Roxbury area. The goal is to attract a young adult, white audience that can appreciate the work dedicated to the film festival and support stories about people of color.
OVERVIEW
A ‘Walk Through Roxbury’ encourages the viewer to explore the Boston area and learn more about filmmakers via interacting directly with them and using hints to find virtual objects scattered across various notable RIFF locations.
AUDIENCE
Our intended audience includes both the original and prospective audiences of the film festival. While we are aiming our experience at various age groups, we have tailored the experience with college students and young adults specifically in mind. Our project takes an educational game approach which we hope will entice young white festival goers to learn more about Roxbury and the people of color within film history. With working filmmakers involved and a question-oriented based experience, we hope to entice aspiring and current filmmakers with the promise of learning more about film in all matters. Our experience incorporates a calming walk throughout the Roxbury area which we hope will draw people of all ages and races in.
CONTEXT SCENARIO
A Walk Through Roxbury encourages the viewer to explore the Boston area and learn more about local filmmakers by interacting directly with them and using location hints to find virtual objects scattered throughout RIFF locations. As the viewer explores these different locations, they learn more about filmmaking and how films have progressed in the Roxbury community. They also have the opportunity to find objects in the location that will allow them to acquire a badge upon scanning the QR code on sight. At each location, the next location hint is provided. The viewer completes the quests and receives prizes for exploring each RIFF location.

Synchronic View
There will be text boxes used to relay information to the user about hints and where to find the target locations. Touching the screen is necessary to progress the game. They may be allowed to tap on the assets and move them around. Most of the interaction revolves around reading the information given at each point.
